It depends what application programs you have on your PC. If you only have MS windows XP and an Internet explorer, AOL, or, an anti-virus program, a few simple programs, your PC can still works pretty effectively. On the other hand, if you load up with many different application programs in your PC, Photoshop cs3, Photoshop Elements, MS windows Office Suites professional suites, and some other heavy duty programs, you naturally need more memory to handle all of the tasks. If your PC has more than 1GB RAM, you will find the PC speed much faster! This is like a human brain - the bigger the brain, the smarter! If someone has a small brain like a walnut, the computation, thinking in that small space will be all jammed up, therefore, very slow! So, check what you have on your computer, then, you know whether you need more memory. Now, the Ram memory chip is very cheap, if you need to add more memory, you can spend $100 have a repair store add it for you, you do not need to worry you loss your files on your PC. But if you have sensitive files - Taxes returns, personal letters, download to a portable drive first before bring to a repair store - Just for security reasons.
